Subject: How to compare jewelry metal tones fairly

Message:
We are sorting a box of family jewelry, and the color question has become more interesting than expected. There are both gold and silver tones in the box, alongside several designs that deliberately mix the two. Our aim is to find pieces people will wear and preserve the stories that make them worth keeping. The shape usually catches my attention first, while the color of the metal is much harder to assess. Comparing a broad pendant with a fine chain seems unfair because their size changes how much light they reflect. Could similarly sized plain samples make the first comparison clearer before we try the more elaborate designs? The subject I am trying to understand is color analysis though a useful observation should still leave everyone free to choose the piece that means something to them. How would you separate metal color from size and finish, and what would you compare before drawing conclusions?
